IDTFs: To Be or Not to Be?

A recent trend has seen some providers enroll imaging centers as independent diagnostic testing facilities ("IDTFs'), including hospitals converting imaging from a hospital outpatient service into an IDTF-based service. Because some providers have not fully evaluated the compliance requirements unique to IDTFs (as compared to other Medicare enrollment categories for imaging) or, for that matter, even considered what services an IDTF can (and cannot) perform and get paid for by Medicare. This presentation will discuss this trend toward IDTF enrollment, how IDTFs are different regulatory animals, what may be alternatives to IDTF enrollment and how to address critical compliance hurdles.
