Intergenerational Conflict Between Physicians: Bridging the Divide
Will Latham, CPA, MBA

Running Effective Board Meetings
Will Latham, CPA, MBA
Does your group suffer from poorly attended meetings, meetings that last too long, or meetings that result in little, if any, progress? This program provides tools and techniques to get the most out of your Board meetings. Whether your group has a separate Board or all physicians participate in meetings, this program will help you effectively plan for and conduct meetings, and improve implementation of decisions.

10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Physician Practice Governance and Leadership: More than Just Herding Cats
Worth M. Saunders, MHA, FACHE and Richard Duszak, MD, FACR
Governance and leadership for radiology groups is more important than ever. The disruption in the marketplace due to declining reimbursement, increase in outsourced teleradiology services, and other marketplace changes create both opportunities and challenges for radiology practices. An effective governance structure and strong physician leadership are key for radiology groups to adapt to this ever changing market. This session will review various governance structures for radiology groups (outlining pros and cons of each model) and then, using case studies, discuss several difficult scenarios which have confronted radiology groups and their leadership.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Times are Changing: Recent Legal Developments of Interest to Radiology Businesses
W. Kenneth Davis, Jr., JD
The healthcare services industry in general has long been the focus of legal scrutiny. But in the more recent past, as the dollars spent on radiology have grown to such a large part of overall healthcare spending, radiology businesses have seen greater scrutiny and regulatory efforts targeted at them. This session will describe recent legal developments on a real time basis. It will provide participants insight into the practical consequences of these changes, and offer strategies for coping with the changes. The session will also explore other legal developments that may be on the horizon, and suggest what radiology businesses should be doing in anticipation of these potential developments.

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Physician Behavior – Establish Expectations
Wendy Lomers, CPA, MBA
It is critical to include the physicians in the establishment of their behavior expectations. Their buy-in is required for a successful outcome. Find out how one practice worked together to establish reasonable expectations and the consequences for failing to meet these expectations, as well as ideas that could have improved upon. Find out what type of contractual language must be in place in order to be successful in this endeavor.

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm
CONCURRENT SESSIONS

Dashboard for Financial Governance
Joseph P. White, CPA, MBA
As the marketplace changes, practices need to become more sophisticated in their strategic, financial and capital planning. Review some of the basic financial tools that are available for planning purposes (NPV, IRR, Payback), and discuss what should be in the organization's "dashboard" and other key metrics for radiology groups and imaging centers.

Creating Strong Marketing Operations Synergy
Kim Longeteig and Melanie Haymond, BSRT
Is your practice is caught in a marketing and operations push-pull syndrome? The symptoms are the same whether you are overseeing multi- modality facilities or a one-service center. Marketing people acting, then informing; operational people not having the inclination to be part of the marketing process; radiologists who duck and cover with the suggestion of marketing; employees unaware of the recently released marketing collateral are all classic signs of marketing and operations working in parallel business universes. The result is a very costly and frustrating place to be. Find out how to create synergy rather than conflict between the two departments.

Radiology Physician Extenders: Bridging Quality, Compliance, and Access to Care
Richard Duszak, Jr., MD, FACR
As radiology practices continue to respond to a national radiologist shortage and declining reimbursement, many have turned to the use of physician extenders to improve patient access to services that otherwise might not be available. This session will describe available technologist (radiologist assistant) and mid-level (nurse practitioner and physician assistant) radiologist extenders, addressing credentialing, training, quality, reimbursement, and regulatory compliance in both diagnostic and interventional radiology applications.

Crafting a Culture of Accountability
Liz Jazwiec
In this very personal presentation Liz Jazwiec will reveal the lessons she learned about becoming a leader. Liz's extraordinary message of accountability will touch the leader in all of us as she talks about behavior, attitude and change. She finishes the program with a heart-to-heart discussion of leadership responsibilities, including the tough subjects of dealing with problem employees and managing staff morale.

Measuring and Managing Physician Productivity: Gold Mine or Land Mine
Richard Duszak, Jr., MD, FACR
Inequities in work performed by physicians in a practice can lead to poor morale and inefficient use of expensive physician resources. This program will offer insight into reasons practices might measure physician productivity, introduce various methodologies used for such measurements, and highlight ways practices might use such measurements to manage physician work.

10:30 am – 11:30 am
CONCURRENT SESSIONS

Physician Evaluation Scorecard
Vicki Wisecup
The physician survey has questions relevant to practices in general as well as to each individual practice. Questions can be modified accordingly. Surveys are sent out to each physician in the group for input regarding each of the other physicians in the group. This data is sent back anonymously to the coordinator or other designee for entry into the physician evaluation spreadsheet. Free text of comments is also included. The data collected produces a report in chart form to be presented to a Board of Directors for review.
