Julie L. Gottshall practices nationally in the area of employment, including litigation and counseling on behalf of management. She regularly represents employers in matters involving race, age, sex, and disability discrimination and harassment, wrongful discharge, negligent retention and hiring, defamation, breach of contract, and compensation and benefit issues. Ms. Gottshall also represents both companies and individuals in matters relating to unfair competition and the enforcement of restrictive covenants, such as confidentiality and non-compete agreements. In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Gottshall advises employers regarding the implementation of personnel policies, provides management training for employment issues, drafts employment contracts, and counsels employers on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Worker Adjustment and Notification Act (WARN) and various state statutes and common law doctrines relating to employment.

Ms. Gottshall speaks at industry conferences and gives management training sessions through organizations such as the Council on Education in Management and the Institute for Applied Management and Law, Inc. She is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Employee Rights and Responsibilities, for which she authors and presents an annual paper on wrongful discharge in violation of public policy. Ms. Gottshall is an arbitrator for the Cook County Circuit Court mandatory arbitration process, and a certified mediator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She has also taught a graduate level course in Human Resource Law at Loyola University ’s Institute of Human Resources and Industrial Relations.

Due to the national scope of her practice, Ms. Gottshall is admitted to practice in Illinois and the District of Columbia, and before the Court of Appeals for the Seventh and Eleventh Circuits, the Northern District of Illinois, the Northern District of Indiana, the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the District of Arizona.

Ms. Gottshall graduated with honors from the National Law Center at George Washington University, where she was a member of the George Washington Law Review. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University ’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
