Description
The United States Congress is likely to tackle a range of Medicare physician payment issues before the end of the year. Averting the 10.1 percent cut to the 2008 Medicare conversion factor and additional imaging payment decreases are at the top of the list of these issues. Also, there is pending legislation before Congress that would place a moratorium on the effects of the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the administrative agency for Medicare, issued its final rule for the 2008 Medicare physicians’ fee schedule. The rule contains final regulations many of which are effective on January 1, 2008. CMS’ rule covers independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTFs), physician self-referral, and a host of relative value unit (RVU) changes to name just a few.
