Christine M. Abell, CPA, is a manager with the health care group of LarsonAllen specializing in providing assurance and consulting services for physician groups and hospitals. Chris has 20 years of experience in public accounting, concentrating exclusively in the health care industry. She has performed audits for health care facilities, including hospitals, physician groups and nonprofit healthcare foundations. Chris graduated from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO, with a Bachelor of Science of Business Administration degree, with an emphasis in accounting and finance. She is a licensed CPA in Minnesota and Missouri.
Catherine Baumgardner, BSBA, MHA, FACHE, has worked in the senior levels of healthcare management for almost 20 years. Catherine’s expertise is in working with healthcare organizations that want to build customer experiences that emulate the Ritz Carlton and Disney, but don’t want an off-the-shelf, canned approach. She helps leadership to build strong service foundations through sound strategy, measurement and accountabilities, so that the cultural change will last into the future. Her approach is personable and focused on teaching the tools, so that the product delivered is integrated into the organization by the end of the consulting engagement. Catherine received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH.
Rachel Bergmann is the manager of marketing and business development for Gem State Radiology, a 21 member physician group, and Intermountain Medical Imaging, their out-patient imaging facilities, where she oversees marketing, business development strategy, and the physician liaison program. She has over 10 years of experience in radiology marketing and sales. She serves on the RBMA Program Committee and is chair of the RBMA Marketing Committee.
Theresa Branham, RT, is the program manager of the MRI and CT accreditation programs at the American College of Radiology and a registered radiologic technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiography. She holds advanced certificates from the ARRT in cardiovascular interventional, computed tomography, magnetic resonance and quality management.
Rosemary Broderick, FACHE, is the corporate executive of Advanced Imaging Specialists, an outpatient diagnostic imaging company located in northeastern Pennsylvania. A native of northeastern Pennsylvania, she holds a master’s degree in health administration and counselor education and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has been involved in healthcare management and administration since 1985 and in the radiology business since 2001.
Judy Burleson, MHSA, is director of metrics at the American College of Radiology serving as staff representative to quality organizations such as NQF, AQA and the AMA Consortium. She also participates in development and implementation of performance measures for programs like CMS PQRI. In the healthcare field over 20 years, Ms. Burleson’s experiences include rural social work, healthcare IT consulting and NCQA HEDIS compliance audits. She has a BSW from East Tennessee State University, an MHA from George Washington University and was also a Navy Officer.
Matthew Cox is the vice president of product management for Virtual Radiologic. He works with customers to help identify product and business opportunities aimed at improving the efficiency for their 130 radiologists, serving more than 800 customer facilities. He has also helped Virtual Radiologic tackle operational issues associated with implementing a Finals billing solution for CMS claims. Mr. Cox has over 15 years of healthcare practice management and IT systems experience.
Anthony W. Davis, CPA, is a health care principal at LarsonAllen and has more than fifteen years of public accounting experience serving both single-specialty and multi-specialty clients within the health care industry. He graduated from Swinburne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. Tony is a licensed CPA in Minnesota.
W. Kenneth Davis, Jr., JD, is a partner in the law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. He counsels healthcare providers on the structuring, growth and ongoing operations of all types of businesses and relationships including initial business model development, analysis of regulatory, compliance and reimbursement issues, negotiation of contracts, various types of financings, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Davis received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Chicago and his law degree with honor from DePaul University College of Law.
Kevin Dial, Director of Operations for Medical Management Professionals, has seventeen years of experience in the healthcare industry. His work includes managed care contract negotiations, hospital consulting, and most recently working with anesthesia and radiology practices to develop improved billing and practice management systems. Kevin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and a Masters of Business Administration from Baylor.
David Dierolf is the Director of Performance Improvement at Outpatient Imaging Affiliates. In this role he highlights and enhances the value OIA brings to its partnerships and facilitates sharing best practices amongst OIA managed centers. Prior to joining OIA, David was Vice President, Information Technology and Operations at Crutchfield Corporation. David holds a B.S. in computer science from Purdue University and a M.S. in computer science from The George Washington University.
Shannon J. Doyle is president of the Montane Group, Inc, a radiology business consulting services company. For the previous 30 years he was the chief manager and ultimately CEO in a radiology business practice; the CEO in a radiologist-hospital joint venture, and the managing partner in a Limited Liability Company. He is a long time RBMA member holding many offices including the Western Section and National Presidencies.
Janet Duffy, RT, (R) (M) is the compliance administrator for Radiological Associates of Sacramento Medical Group, Inc. She has been overseeing the quality assessment and improvement activities of the Diagnostic Division – which includes 15 outpatient sites and 40 radiologists since 1997. Ms. Duffy is also responsible for the practice’s accreditation with the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care. She has her B.S. in Business Administration and is a registered RT, (R) (M).
John Garrett is director of business development for RMI Physicians Services, Inc., a radiology billing and practice management firm. He has 10 years of Fortune 100 experience in financial analysis, project development and M&A management. He joined RMI in 2003, and served as director of operations for three years, overseeing the front-end operations which included the development of internal tools used to monitor employee performance and the implementation of RMI’s initiatives to incentivize employees based on overall rankings of productivity and quality.
Jeannette Gontarek, MBA currently serves on the RBMA Imaging Center Committee and is employed by CBIZ Medical Management Professionals. She serves as a Director of Operations for clients in the Florida, Louisiana, and Texas markets.
Gabe Graham, CPA, is a financial consultant working with hospital-based physicians. Mr. Graham is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, with a bachelor’s in accounting. Prior to joining CBIZ MMP in August 2003, Mr. Graham was a tax consultant with Deloitte & Touche, specializing in large business and individual income tax. Mr. Graham serves as a Financial Manager, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Graham is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, with a bachelor’s in accounting.
Ron Howrigon is president and founder of Fulcrum Strategies – a provider advocacy company that offers a variety of services and products to physicians and hospitals to help them effectively deal with their managed care contracts and relationships. Mr. Howrigon has 18 years of experience in the managed care industry as a negotiator and network manager. He has held senior management level positions with three of the largest managed care companies in the country including Kaiser Permanente, CIGNA HealthCare and BlueCross BlueShield.
Liz Jazwiec, RN, is a nationally renowned speaker and consultant who has shared her passion for customer service and employee satisfaction with more than 500 audiences across the country.
A longtime hospital officer who helped raise service scores at Chicago, Illinois’ Holy Cross Hospital from the 5th to the 99th percentile in just a few years, Ms. Jazweic’s work as vice president of patient care and as the director of emergency services was one of the key reasons Holy Cross won Fortune Magazine’s Enterprise Award for Best Business Practices in 1996.
W. Cannon King, MBA, serves as executive vice president of business development for Outpatient Imaging Affiliates (OIA), a national owner and operator of outpatient imaging centers. Mr. King led the successful nationwide deployment of OIA’s partnership model which has resulted in imaging center partnerships with many nationally renowned healthcare providers. He has a great deal of experience in analyzing imaging market opportunities and in structuring transactions that meet both the goals of the local healthcare partners and all federal and state regulatory requirements. Mr. King has a wide range of healthcare experience in facilities development, practice management, and managed healthcare.
Patricia Kroken, FACMPE, CRA is a former radiology practice manager and has worked as a business consultant to radiology practices, billing companies, hospitals and imaging centers for the past 8 years. She is a regular contributor to the RBMA Bulletin and various national radiology publications--as well as a frequent speaker on radiology management topics. She is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a Certified Radiology Administrator.
Gregory M. Kusiak, MBA, is the practice manager of The Hill Medical Corporation, a radiology group in Pasadena, CA, and president of C.M.B.S., Inc., a billing and practice management company. He has held both positions since 1998. A native of Indiana, he has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Purdue University, and a Master of Business Administration from UCLA. He has been a healthcare manager since 1970, including stints as a hospital administrator and management consultant, and has been in radiology management since 1985.
Lori Laubach, CPA has over 20 years of healthcare consulting and public accounting experience. Her consulting engagements have included regulatory compliance design, implementation and monitoring of multi and single specialty clinics, radiology, orthopedic, and community health centers; forensic coding and compliance reviews; operational and revenue benchmarking; revenue cycle and billing office/agency assessments; operational reviews; system selection projects, and risk assessment of physician groups.
Jim Lawrence, CIC, is a founding partner of Alliance Insurance Services and has served as president since its inception in 1986. He has devoted a great deal of time helping business owners understand the best possible way to handle risk for more than 20 years. Mr. Lawrence is also a featured lecturer on agency management and various insurance topics throughout the United States and Puerto Rico for the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research which trains agents for the prestigious Certified Insurance Counselor (C.I.C.) certification.
Leonard Lucey, JD, is Legal Counsel and Senior Director for Non-Breast Imaging Accreditation Programs for the American College of Radiology. He received a B.A. degree in English and Sociology from McKendree College in Illinois and a J.D. degree from Southern Illinois University. While serving as a Judge Advocate in the United States Army he received an LL.M. from the University of Virginia. He has been a practicing attorney for 30 years with a primary concentration in medical-legal issues. Mr. Lucey has been with the American College of Radiology since 1993, serving first as assistant general counsel until 2001 when he became a senior director for the ACR Department of Quality and Safety and concentrated his efforts on accreditation programs and related activities.
David Monaghan, MHA, is currently the Administrator of Pediatric Radiology, P.C., a practice of thirteen pediatric radiologists, and President of Imaging Management Professionals, LLC, a radiology revenue cycle management and consulting company, both located in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has worked in radiology practice management for the past 11 years. Prior to this position he provided management and consulting services to imaging centers, radiology and other specialty group practices and hospitals in the areas of revenue cycle management, imaging center feasibility, joint venture service arrangements, physician compensation, payer contracting and administrative process automation using advanced information technology. Mr. Monaghan received his Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from California State University Chico, and a Master of Healthcare Administration through the University of Minnesota.
James Morgan, WCP, CRIS, is an executive board member for CBIZ Medical Professional Solutions. Mr. Morgan began his career at CBIZ in 2006 and his responsibilities include program, services, and client development, risk identification and coverage negotiations, technical analysis and placement of coverage with diverse insurance markets. Mr. Morgan has over 10 years of experience in the insurance industry in a variety of environment and has served as a producer with the Professional Construction Industry Workers’ Compensation group and as a Professional Insurance Industry Technology Consultant.
Melody W. Mulaik, MSHS, CPC, CPC-H, RCC, is the president and co-founder of Coding Strategies, Inc. and Coding Metrix, Inc. She is a frequent speaker and author for nationally recognized professional organizations and publications. She often speaks at national conferences on many topics including interventional and diagnostic radiology coding, internal audit program development, radiology coding compliance and other healthcare compliance issues. Prior to founding CSI, Ms. Mulaik held the position of vice president of billing compliance for a large national billing company, where she was responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the billing compliance program.
Claudia A. Murray has over 30 years experience in healthcare, as a consultant, and with the Medicare Program. She started and grew a successful service company, assisted with the development of proprietary software and other products, including the RBMA Compliance Implementation Toolkit™, and the RBMA HIPAA Workbook for Privacy and Security™. Ms. Murray provides on-site reviews, educational seminars and ongoing compliance program auditing reviews for practices and for OIG Corporate Integrity Agreements as an Independent Review Organization (IRO) as well as providing operational assessments, due diligence and accounts receivable financial analyses for physician practices, imaging centers and billing services.
Joseph Nugent has over twenty years experience in the Information Technology field, with over fifteen of those years specifically dedicated to Healthcare Informatics. Having completed his first Teleradiology implementation in 1992, Joseph has thorough knowledge and experience in the design and deployment of Teleradiology, PACS and RIS solutions. Having been involved with digital medical imaging at its infancy, Joseph was able to contribute in developing DeJarnette’s ACR-NEMA standard, which later evolved into DICOM, as it is known today. In addition, he has extensive expertise in DICOM validation and conformance, as well as HL7 interface design and deployment. Joseph also possesses a comprehensive proficiency in secure data network design, construction and deployment and earned his Cisco CCNA credential in 2004. Currently, Joseph is engaged in a RIS/PACS implementation for a cancer center in Detroit, MI as well as serving as their Interim PACS Administrator.
Nicole L. Palmer, CPA provides Management Services Network, LLC (MSN) with business development support services including the development of new accounts and prospective client leads. Ms. Palmer began her career in public accounting after graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She has spent over 16 years working specifically with radiology practices to increase the effectiveness of their financial management, as well as the management of their billing operations. Ms. Palmer has worked with a large national vendor that provided practice management services to radiology practices, several large regional multi-office, multi-modality radiology practices, and consulting firms that provide financial management services to physician practices. Ms. Palmer is an active member of the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA), and served on the Board of Directors for this organization as the Eastern Director from 2002 to 2004. Ms. Palmer is also a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).
Kathleen Pinkham, BA serves as a vice president and executive board member for CBIZ Medical Professional Solutions and has over 30 years of experience in the design and management of insurance programs for healthcare providers and institutions. She began her career at CBIZ in 2007 and her responsibilities include program and service development, risk identification and coverage negotiations, technical underwriting and placement of coverage with diverse insurance markets. Ms. Pinkham earned her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Missouri and is also a Property & Casualty Licensed Agent.
Barbara F. Rubel, MBA, currently provides comprehensive client support services for MSN clients from the initial practice audit through contract implementation. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Mercer University Atlanta, as well as a Master of Education in Music from Ohio University. Prior to joining the MSN team, Ms. Rubel provided health care marketing services to sole physician practitioners, physician groups, and specialty physician networks as contract negotiator, strategic planner, and marketing consultant.
Joseph A. Seale, CMA, CFE is director of operations for RMI Physicians Services, Inc, a radiology billing and practice management firm. He began his career as a cost accountant for a manufacturing firm, and then moved to Duke Energy as a member of the M&A team for the energy commodity trading business lines. He has spent the last five years at RMI redefining the billing and collection business model to maximize quality and efficiency. He holds a BBA in accounting; is a Certified Management Accountant; and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Steve Smith is the vice president of client services, for the Imaging Center Institute. The last ten years of his 25-year marketing career have been in healthcare. Mr. Smith has consistently developed effective strategies and tactics to help fuel the growth of imaging centers across the country, including direct mail, websites, magazine ads, conference promotions, PowerPoint presentations, e-mail blasts, online newsletters, telephone broadcasts and more.
Charles Socia R.T. (R)(QM)(CT) has over 19 years of radiology experience encompassing all aspects from radiology management and project management to Data center development and IT implementation. He was instrumental in the creation and development of the CIIP certification exam co sponsored by SIIM and the ARRT. He currently serves as a Board Member and officer for the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII). He also serves on the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine annual program committee.
Andrew B. Wachler, Esq., is the principal of Wachler & Associates, P.C. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Michigan in 1974 and Cum Laude from Wayne State University Law School in 1978. Mr. Wachler is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Health Care Law Section (Health Providers Subcommittee, past member Health Care Law Section Council), American Bar Association, Health Care Law Section, and the American Health Lawyers Association.
Joseph P. White, CPA, MBA, healthcare principal at LarsonAllen, specializes in serving physician groups and health care systems. He has over 20 years of experience in consulting, tax and assurance services in the healthcare field. He is also adjunct faculty at the University of St. Thomas teaching in The Center for Health and Medical Affairs, the Physician Leadership College and the Mini-MBA in Medical Group Management. His ability to communicate healthcare financial issues and concepts to non-financial individuals has helped many clients gain insight and understanding.
