| 1968 | Founded with the support and direction from the American College of Radiology (ACR), the first steering committee met in Chicago under the guidance of Dr. Calhoun and formed the Radiology Business Association. Dr. Calhoun's business manager, Maxine Williams, took over as director of the organization. |

| 1972 | RBMA regional sections were created. The Midwest was the first regional section to develop, followed by the south, west and east respectively. |
| 1973 | RBMA members began meeting on an annual basis. |
| 1974 | 250 members and regional sections became an official part of the organizational structure. |
| 1975 | Continuing Education Committee was formed to develop a program of education that would lead to certification of radiology business managers. |
| 1977 | Monthly circulation of the RBMA newsletter commenced. |
| 1979 | Educational fund for financial assistance to its regional meetings was authorized. |
| 1980 | A standardized course of education was developed intended to lead to certification of participants. RBMA strengthens ties with AHRA and MGMA. |
| 1983 | Continuing Education program implemented. Full time staff hired and a central executive office was established. |
| 1984 | Formal chart of accounts established. Freestanding educational seminars, programs and activities began. |
| 1985 | Quarterly business journal began publication. Newsletter reduced to eight times per year. |
| 1986 | Jointly with RSNA, RBMA cosponsors a Radiology Hotline, a service manned by volunteers offering free consultation to members on business and reimbursements questions. |
